The agreement regarding the organization of the 2025 European Open Championship in Poznań was concluded in February during the European Bridge Federation (EBL) seminar in Dubrovnik. It was signed by the president of the Polish Sports Bridge Association, Marek Michałowski, and the president (or in Polish, also the president…) of EBL, the Dutchman Eric Laurant.

– Without false modesty, we can say that this is a consequence of two facts: our high sports position and the fact that we are able to organize international events – says the head of PZBS. – We heard many warm words in Dubrovnik. Polish bridge, especially compared to several other European powers in the past, is quickly recovering from the post-pandemic crisis. The number of association members and tournaments is growing. We have also developed a brand of a trusted, reliable and reliable partner and even an expert in organizing the most important international events. Maintaining the proportions, because it is not as marketing as, for example, Polish volleyball. We are credible not only to European and world authorities, but also – which is extremely important to achieve the financial success of all these championships – to national sponsors. And we have people who know this and can work hard but sensibly. In Poznań, it will be led by Piotr Cieśliński, who has developed a “brand” for himself as the president of one of our most interesting clubs and the organizer of the local congress, held in probably the best Polish bridge facility. This hall, on the premises of the event’s partner, the Poznań International Fair, will also be the arena for next year’s European Championships, concluded the president of the Polish association.

He is not worth bragging about, but it is also important that all pairs and teams consisting only of competitors registered in the WBF under the Polish flag will be able to benefit from 30% discounts on entry fees. With amounts of several hundred euros, this is really a great personal negotiation success for Marek Michałowski.

And once again – after the 2022 World Championships in Wrocław – we will host an important tournament in the “open” formula, i.e. available to EVERYONE. It is worth emphasizing this constantly: only in bridge can you play against a world or Olympic champion and even defeat him – in a short distance. To popularize our most beautiful mental sport, we need to plan as many such competitions as possible. And it’s great that ordinary Polish bridge players will also have another opportunity to compete against the brightest stars as cheaply as possible. Book your time at the turn of June and July 2025!
